Question:
“How do you cope with low Iman days? How to get that strong bond with Allah again? Any verse, any quote, any hadeeth, or personal experience is appreciated, please? Jazakillah.”
Answer:
Waalaikumussalaam, dear. Jazakillahu Khayr for your question.
One thing that helps me is accepting, and even anticipating, those low Iman days by remembering the Hadith of Sayyidna Hanzalah (ra).
He once became so worried, he feared he’d become a hypocrite because of the way his inner state changed. Whenever he left the company of the Prophet ﷺ and returned to his wife, children, and daily responsibilities, he no longer felt the same level of Iman that he did whilst in the company of the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ reassured him that this was simply part of being human. If the companions’ hearts remained in that heightened spiritual state all the time, the angels would shake hands with them in their beds and on their paths.
The lesson is that your Iman won’t always be at the same level, and that’s by design.
Just as your motivation, energy, and emotions fluctuate, your Iman naturally has its highs and lows too.
So when those low Iman days come, don’t panic. Accept that they’re part of the journey.
And remind yourself that today doesn’t have to be the same as yesterday.
Every single day, Allah ﷻ gives us another opportunity to return to Him. So don’t spend the day dwelling, despairing, and overthinking.
Just begin again.
