You know those seasons of life when you’re constantly overwhelmed yet also feel stuck? When there’s so much to do all the time and yet you still feel a lack of fulfilment and purpose?

When I’m feeling that way, I’ve found these positive affirmations to really make a difference in helping me feel calmer, more patient and accepting. I hope they increase your sense of mental and emotional wellbeing as well!

  1. “Everything is fine.”
  2. “This is important work.”
  3. “Life is not an emergency.”

1. “Everything is fine.”

This is something you should repeat to yourself particularly at night, when you’re prone to lie in bed and overthink everything that happened during the day, the tasks left unfinished, leading to a spiral of everything that has ever gone wrong in the past, everything that can potentially go wrong in the future…and on and on.

I want you to try to stop as soon as you become aware of this downward spiral and start whispering to yourself, “everything is fine.”

This will center you, allowing you to focus on:

  • all the things you DID do that day,
  • everything positive you’ve done in the past, and
  • everything that can potentially go right in the future.

You’ll calm down right away and will breathe – and fall asleep – much easier.

2. “This is important work.”

Say this to yourself

  • When you’re brushing your daughter’s hair.
  • When you’re doing the dishes.
  • When you’re washing up after the kids.
  • When you’re lying down to take a break.
  • When you’re cleaning the hundredth spill of the week.

Basically any moment of the day when you’re not being “productive” and your mind is racing with thoughts of the work-related things you have to do that seem so much more worthwhile, remind yourself that every moment you spend tending to yourself and your family, all of the menial tasks you do around the house, all of it is important work.

Taking breaks is important. Resting is important. All of this is important work.

3. “Life is not an emergency.”

If you think about it, there are always going to be things left unfinished on your to-do list, right until the moment you die.

The undue pressure you’re placing on yourself to do and be EVERYTHING to EVERYONE all the time is killing your mental peace and taking years off your life.

So why the rush? Why worry because of self-created deadlines, hurrying from task to task as if life is one big emergency after the other?

Slow down. Breathe. Live life purposefully, meaningfully, mindfully. Everything is fine. You’re doing important work just by being here and showing up. Life is not an emergency.
